Viewpoint Luncheon: The State Budget’s Focus on Education: Meeting the Need or Over the Top?

By Therese Schneider

More than 100 people attended our Viewpoint Luncheon: The State Budget’s Focus on Education: Meeting the Need or Over the Top? on Tuesday, May 21 at the Concourse Hotel in Madison. The event explored the state of education in Wisconsin as framed by the Governor’s budget proposal. One of the most striking features of Governor Tony Evers’ proposed budget is the amount of new spending on education – including hundreds of millions more for K-12 school aids, special education, and the UW System and relaxed revenue limits for school and technical college districts.

Senior Researcher Anne Chapman provided the Forum’s take on the education components of the proposed budget. Then, we heard from a panel of education experts and leaders:

Jeff Buhrandt, Senior Director of State Relations, UW System
Scott Manley, Senior VP of Govt Relations, Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce
Dan Rossmiller, Director of Govt Relations, Wisconsin Association of School Boards
Sharon Schmeling, Executive Director, Wisconsin Council of Religious & Independent Schools
