Responding to Emerging Behavioral Health Challenges

Virtual event | April 29, 2022 | 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

In partnership with

Our April 29 Forum Friday event centered on the challenges posed by the escalating prevalence of mental illness and substance use disorders in the wake of the pandemic and how state and local agencies will respond. We were proud to partner with Milwaukee’s Grand Avenue Club to present this program.

We started with an overview of recent Forum research on the rise in alcohol deaths and usage in the state. We then moved to a discussion with state and local leaders about the nature and breadth of the emerging challenges and the resources and policies that will be required to effectively respond.

Helping us explore these issues were our Forum Friday guests: Wisconsin Department of Health Services Secretary Karen Timberlake; Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services Director Shakita LaGrant-McClain; and Dr. Maria Perez, Chairwoman of the Milwaukee County Mental Health Board.

During Forum Fridays, we discuss a timely research topic and invite notable guests and Forum members to join the conversation. We hope this can be another way to keep you informed and connected on our state’s most pressing public policy issues. Stay tuned for more Forum Friday events in the near future!
