Aging and Substance Use in Wisconsin’s Criminal Justice System

Virtual event | March 20, 2026 | 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

On March 20 our virtual event series, Forum Friday, focused on our state’s criminal justice system, including the aging of our state’s defendant and prison populations. We also discussed substance use disorder in these populations, and the increase in the number of Wisconsinites incarcerated for drunk driving.

Our Forum Friday panelists included:

Jennifer Bias
State Public Defender

Jared Hoy
Wisconsin Department of
Corrections Secretary

Kent Lovern
Milwaukee County
District Attorney

During Forum Fridays, we discuss a timely research topic and invite notable guests and Forum members to join the conversation. We hope this can be another way to keep you informed and connected on our state’s most pressing public policy issues. Stay tuned for more Forum Friday events in the near future!
