The shift to remote working that was spurred by the pandemic continues to pose questions and challenges for downtowns across the country, which have seen restaurants reduce hours or shutter and employers consider reduced office footprints. While the degree to which workers will return to the office remains to be seen as the pandemic recedes, a loss of even a fraction of the downtown workforce could have vast consequences for businesses and residents.
Please join the Wisconsin Policy Forum as we partner with Milwaukee Downtown and Downtown Madison, Inc., as part of their MSN+MKE Downtown Exchange Series, to host a Viewpoint Luncheon that will explore the state of downtowns in Wisconsin’s two largest cities: Milwaukee and Madison.
We’ll begin with an update by Milwaukee Department of City Development Commissioner Lafayette Crump on the current effort to prepare a strategic update to the Downtown Area Plan. Then, we’ll hear from a panel of downtown stakeholders from both Madison and Milwaukee:
Jason Ilstrup, President, Downtown Madison, Inc.
Joshua Jeffers, Founder & CEO, J. Jeffers & Co.
Anne Neujahr Morrison, Shareholder, Urban Land Interests and New Year Investments
Beth Weirick, CEO, Milwaukee Downtown
Moderated by Jason Stein, Wisconsin Policy Forum
