Housing affordability has become one of our state’s most pressing challenges, with home prices growing much faster than incomes in the 2020s. At the same time, local governments are increasingly reliant on local development to fund their core services. These issues make development a timely topic.
Our event will convene expert panelists to discuss how to balance the need for timely housing and commercial development with appropriate levels of public oversight and community input. To explore it, we’ll draw on recent Forum research that examined the development approval and permitting timelines in the city of Milwaukee and five of its largest suburbs.
