Digital FAQ

By Therese Schneider

We go all-digital on April 1, 2019! If you’re a current contributor, please send your email address to info@wispolicyforum.org.

When are Focus and The Wisconsin Taxpayer going paperless?
The print edition of both publications ends April 1, 2019.

How do I continue to receive these publications?
Send your email address to info@wispolicyforum.org. If you’re a Wisconsin Policy Forum member or contributor, we’ll make sure you’re on our email list. If you’re not a member, you can join online here.

Why are these publications going all-digital?
We believe that by going digital, we can serve the public and policymakers–and our supporters–better than before. The core mission of the Wisconsin Policy Forum is to provide informed analysis of critical policy issues affecting local governments, school districts, and the state of Wisconsin. Our research should be easily accessible and not fenced off behind a paywall. (Subscribers and contributors to the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance could only receive mailed copies of publications; Focus and Taxpayer were not available online.)

The move to digital also gives us the ability to link to previous reports or other sources and use interactive charts and graphs in our Focus and Taxpayer publications. We have already begun to introduce such features in our online versions but we feel it’s important to use these tools in all publications and we can’t in our print versions.

Finally, while we’re asking those who once enjoyed our mailed copies to experience a change, we’re also offering to all our supporters a much wider array of research products. If you’re on our e-mail list, you are receiving a greater quantity of research, including new products in interactive, web-based formats. The Forum also hosts events throughout the year, and we’ll make sure you’re invited!

So why not provide both print and digital options for your supporters?
Providing our content in both formats takes lots of extra staff time and forces us to incur considerable design, printing, and postage costs. In today’s digital world, we think we can be more effective by devoting those human and financial resources to producing more and better research products and expanding our portfolio to include videos, web-based content, etc.

Is there any way I can still receive printed copies after April 1, 2019?
While we won’t print and mail these publications after April 1, 2019, you’ll be able to download the PDF and print at your leisure.

Will I need a log in and password to access these publications?
Nope! We’ll email you when we’ve published the latest issue of these publications—in addition to other products in our research portfolio and invitations to our events. The email will contain a summary of what’s in that particular issue and links to the full document.

Am I already on your email list?
If you’re receiving our emails with our research and event announcements, then yes, you’re on our email list. No need to take further action. If you haven’t received emails from us (the Wisconsin Policy Forum) and you’re a current member or contributor, then email info@wispolicyforum.org.

What if I have additional questions that aren’t answered here?
Email info@wispolicyforum.org and we’ll get back to you!
