The Madison-based Membership and Development Associate will work closely with the WPF President, Research Director, Communications Director, and Director of Operations to develop and implement strategic approaches to build the organization’s membership and fund development in the Madison region. The Development Associate will be charged with identifying and establishing contacts with prospective corporate, nonprofit, and institutional members; cultivating relationships with Madison-area foundations and major individual donors; and opening doors for the President to meet with such individuals and organizations. The essential outcome of these activities is to grow Greater Madison-based income and thereby enhance the financial security of the organization and its impact across Wisconsin.
Develop and implement annual fundraising and membership plans for Greater Madison in conjunction with President and Director of Operations.
Identify prospective corporate, nonprofit, and institutional members and develop strategies to cultivate those relationships, including setting up face-to-face meetings.
Identify potential grant opportunities from Madison-based foundations, establish contacts at those foundations, and assist with grant writing.
Identify potential individual donors and help to solicit contributions and participation in the organization’s Chairman’s Club.
Play a pivotal role in the successful conversion of former WISTAX contributors and subscribers to WPF members.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Preferred fields include fund development, business administration, marketing, communications, public relations.
3-5 years of related experience; demonstrable connections to potential Madison area donors and/or fund development circles strongly preferred.
Knowledge and competence in fund development-related concepts and practices, database management, and Microsoft Office suite.
Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
Ability and desire to get out of the office and build external relationships.

A rate of $25 to $30 per hour will be offered based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. It is anticipated that the position will require an average of 20 hours per week out of our Madison office, though hours may vary somewhat depending on the needs of the organization and the availability of the successful applicant.
